Last night it was 981, a superlative sports car.
Tonight, 991 Carrera 4S, pretty much my epitome of Grand Touring performance coupe... (although I don’t know if I would rather have a glass-sunroof C4S, or a new folding Targa 4S, if we’re talking about dreaming...)
Naturally aspirated, healthy flat 6 somewhere near 400 horsepower, generous interior sport coupe packaging, and direct AWD drivetrain, like an Audi or Subaru, but with rear weight and torque bias, and the aero advantages of a slim front end, and light, communicative steering. Even now aided by electrically actuated 4-wheel steering to complement the 4-wheel drive.
Audi R8 used to be compelling, but has gotten less attractive, where 991 improved over 997. Lambo Huracan is much more expensive and sharply focused. A 991 seems like it could do hot laps, and then drive across the state to stretch and cool off, and the driver would be quite happy with that, too.
